petrol tank blues
Does any one have a good petrol tank to fit a 240 petrol injection estate, or where I might find a new one. Is the tank the same for the saloon? I am living in the very east of East Anglia so something nearby would be handy.

Estates & saloons are the same, carb & injection is different internally. The baffle plate inside is slightly different because the sender unit is a little different. Won't affect the running but the fuel gauge won't read properly if for example you put an injection tank on a carb'd car.
I wouldn't waste my time & money on a secondhand tank, they all rot out and the seams split. If you can afford it, I got a new one from Northern Radiators Group, www.radiatorsonline.co.uk. £103 at present, came in a couple of days. Gave it a darn good undersealing before I fitted it so probably outlast me nevermind the car! Be gentle with the filler pipe because you'll need this, and the rubber o-ring where it clamps to the tank. There is also a clamp ring which connects it to the tank which can get crusty with age, I replaced mine with a v-band clamp intended for an exhaust I think. hope this helps Rich |
I don't believe there is a difference in the tanks for FI v carbs. The float and sender is the same, FI pickups justs allow for a lifter pump. Certainly the aftermarket places do not distinguish. Unfortunately new aftermarket tanks are not available for 84+ cars, so it's genuine Volvo at some exhorbitant price or good second hand if you can find one if you have a later car.
Have you tried Norfolk Volvo Spares http://www.thomsonlocal.com/Norfolk-...mpanyinfo.html I just replaced the tank on my '88 and got 2nd hand tank from Braydon (I think, it could have been Brookhouse, I always get the two confused). I wish I could have used a new one, it cost almost as much anyway... Andrew |
