XC60 Wheels on XC70

Hi,

Will 18inch "Mantus Silver Stone" wheels from an XC60 fit on a 2010 XC70? I know you can order the Mantus wheels for the XC70 but not sure if they are identical in all aspects.

Cheers

Jack

update

Hi,

I asked this question to my dealer and they agrees that all was the same

width 7.5J
18 inch
centre bore 65.1

the only difference was the offset which I thought could be fixed with spiggot rings.

The dealer said however that the wheels from an XC60 are not compatible with an XC70 as "wheels have a different rack and pinion set up". Anyone any thoughts on this?

Cheers.. Jack

The "Minos" and "Merac" wheels for the XC70 have the same 55mm offset as the "Mantus" wheel. They are all 7.5J x 18"

I see no reason why they wouldn't be interchangeable between models if the centre bore and bolt pattern are also the same, which you've suggested they are, but it seems those XC60 wheels are not offered on the XC70 but they are on the V70:

For example
Here is the Cratus wheel for the XC60: http://vccs.volvocars.se/accessories...VCC-409037.htm
Here is the Cratus wheel for the V70: http://vccs.volvocars.se/accessories...VCC-381992.htm

Same wheel, same part number.

I would have assumed wheels were interchangeable between V70 and XC70 but maybe that's not the case.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the reply. I am sure they should fit but between me and the chap I am getting them off ** three dealers ** have said they are not compatible. One said bolt pattern is different, one gave no reason and one said as I mentioned above that the "wheels have a different rack and pinion set up" ...

Really annoying... By the way the wheels are "Mantus" not "Cratus"

Steve

I was using the Cratus as an example of same part on V70 and XC60.

There must be something different about the XC70 to both the XC60 and V70 that makes it incompatible; I can't believe the XC70 and V70 use different steering set ups, but then maybe I'm wrong.

Hi Tommy,

I am confused at how any steering set up can make any difference if the wheels the same diameter and width? How do people buy custom alloy wheels for their cars with all this "rack and pinion set up" stuff.. I am bewildered..

I agree, and I think the steering thing is a red herring.

More info

I asked the dealer to explain the "rack and pinion problem" and he replied.

"The problem is not the profile of the tyres but the turning circle
which is limited by the amount of internal lock of the rack and pinion. If
you put 18in wheels on they will foul on the chassis on lock."

So I guess they are pretty sure that it is a no go.

I think they're still talking bollocks. If the wheel you want to put on has the same dimensions (and tyre size) as other wheel options that fit the XC70 it cannot suddenly foul the chassis just because your one is a different style.

It is true that bigger wheels on the V70 (and presumably the XC70) need a steering limiter fitted to stop the wheels rubbing, but that's a separate issue.

I can't get my head round it either, it is a mystery to me.. If it is the wheel and tyre are the same overall size together then they are the same??? Now I just don't know what to do?
