Why do my Doors Always Freeze Completely Shut?
Honestly, in this weather my wife can't get the car door open. And has no chance if shes got the wee nipper in her arms.
Has or does anyone else have this problem? Hardly seems worth trying to get the already dodgy door seals redone. They never met with the car door frame on top since I've had it yet there is never too much water ingress seamingly - unless its minus 4c haha. |
Try Nextzett Gummi Pflege Rubber Care on all the rubber seals.

Or just some silicone grease will do the trick as well.

Silicone spray from your local Home Bargain store sprayed round the door seals and top edge of door and frame stop them sticking. I also spray the door handles where they meet the body.

Excellent. 'Seams' very straight forward. Thank you all

Unfortunately this is Volvo's target performance
I have 2023 XC90 and the same problem. The door handle or my hand will break before the rear door can be opened in freezing weather. Rear doors are frozen shut and as good as locked at the slightest frost.
I went out of my way to spend time with the dealer so he could study my car. I showed the technician the problem and shared my photographs and video. But they confirmed this is the normal expected performance for my Volvo. I also raised with Volvo on-line support who confirmed the same. All my other cars (not Volvos) are parked in the same place, at the same time, in the same weather. Only the Volvo has the problem. |
For me it’s not the rubber door seals, but the actually locking mechanism freezes in cold weather. There have been a few occasions where I’ve had to climb through the boot to open the doors from the inside.

Had this issue on my v90cc rear door, tried lithium grease on visible lock mechanism, siliconed the door seals, all had no effect.
During freezing conditions hot water in a watering can poured over handle area external door skin would release the lock, but this would freeze again later. Eventually i had the situation when the door would not latch shut, my passenger had to hold the door closed, travelling home, outside temp was around 5 degs c. My local Volvo dealer had to replace the lock assembly this was covered by the extended warranty. |
