Volvo dealer service costs

I've just forked out £180+vat for labour :emoticon_U: for an 80,000 mile service on my 1999 V70. Neither the cam belt (because it wasn't due) nor the aux belt (because they did have one) were changed. Is this the going rate?

All up including an MOT, it came to £400 which is about £100 more than last year.

Is this the time to go to an independent?

Break down

Give us a breakdown of parts, labour and VAT to make a concerted judgement.
Cheers

The rounded to nearest £ costs were:

Labour 179
Spark plugs 20
Oil & disposal 48
Filter 7
Service kit 28
Filter inset 14
Washer fluid 2

Total 298
VAT 52
Total Inc VAT 350
MOT 50
Total 400

There was no extra or repair work.

Thanks

Labour 179+VAT, what the hell for.......

That is plain ridiculous, plugs filters and fluids and a 2hr dinner break for £200+

Next time Utilise the specialists on the board if I was you

Sorry to hear that mate

Hi.
I'm going to our nearest main dealers -Stratstone, Cardiff-tomorrow morning to get a price for changing the rear discs on my 850 , while its booked in for the recall on the wiring for the heated seats, I've had a price for the brakes from Fit Kwik for just over £200 which I thought was quite reasonable, so it will be interesting to see what the main dealer quotes.

I do it myself, (servicing that is LOL). They don't spend the time on a proper oil change at the stealers and if you do it yourself you can have a really good look round for anything wrong. I had mine is the stealers for 5 hours and they failed to spot the inlet to PCV elbow hanging off. It took me 5 minutes. Remember your paying an hourly rate at volvo for the car to sit there draining oil!!!!

Plugs, oil & filters = £179 labour! = too much. Its DIY stuff really.

Independants garages would charge about >£50-£80ish for that. A local mechanic who I have used for the past 8 years owuld charge me about £20 labour!

FWIW, some Volvo dealerships, especially the Stratstone ones have £100plus +vat p/hour labour charges! Volvo UK came down on my local stealership for this!

MOT @ £50 is fine, standard test fee by VOSA is £53.50 but its upto the garages how much they wish to charge for it .....

FWIW, my local stratstone volvo dealer wants about £340 to do the oil, air and fuel filters, take it for a road test and carry out various checks to make it look like they have done something - I got the OE parts and just did it myself.

it seems that I was charged the official rate. Last year the cost was £300 all up, so they've really hiked the prices. I gave the car a good clean yesterday and I'm pretty sure that the wheels hadn't been removed judging by the brake dust on the (steel) wheel trims but I'm not sure if that is necessary for an 80,000 mile service (the car has actually done about 50,000 miles). What I do know is that they stiffed me on the washer fluid. It's only 2 quid but it adds insult to injury. I had to put 2 litres in to top it up.

I'll be looking for an independent next time.

Hi.
Went to the nearest main dealer-Stratstone,Cardiff. They did the recall, fine no money changed hands.Their price for changing rear discs and pads was £225,not bad , but Volvo specialists at Bridgend would charge £175 for the same thing, so it's booked in there.

Do you mean Kwik Fit, they tend to invent problems as the boys are on "find a job" bonus.

Is Stratstone that lot down by the Bay known as Baytrack?
