V40 T3 Service advice
 

Hi All,
Could anyone offer some advice on servicing for my 2018 V40 T3? mileage 20,000.
Is it worth keeping main dealer history or find a decent independent?
Main dealer wants £530 for the 'major' 4 year service :thinking:

Car is due to be out of warranty in the next few months. The only benefit I can see of the main dealer is the 1 year roadside assistance..

Depends. If it blows up a week after the warranty expires you can wave adios to any prospect of goodwill if you go to Bombsite Motors.

Subtract the cost of the Volvo Assist (its basically Volvo branded RAC cover worth about £200) and the service may not be as expensive as you think. In my case its always been cheaper to have a dealer service with the free cover, than to go to an independent and buy the cover seperately.

Then an independent wont give a lifetime warranty on parts, won't update to the latest software automatically (a genuine specialist rather than a mere independent might, but there aren't many about), won't automatically apply any service bulletins or low level upgrades (some years ago I got new seatbelts for free), so when all is taken into account they not usually that cheap and definietly aren't good value.

Thank you, I didn't realise the Volvo road assist was worth so much. So really with that taken into consideration it's not far off an indie price.

Never sure on how realistic 'goodwill' is but I guess the only way you have a chance is if all parts are approved Volvo.

I agree with all these points. I have a 2012 hence it’s clearly not worth me taking to a dealer (or anyone for that matter - I have serviced it myself for the last 5 years).

However I would probably have yours serviced 2 times more and then go to good indi.

That said, I think a lot of Indi are not really up to much now and charge almost as much as Volvo.

For 5 years almost all items I have bought have been genuine Volvo as it’s such good value (only light cluster and brake part bought pattern due to huge cost difference).
