Amazon estate pulling weight
Does anyone know how much weight an amazon estate can pull. I have just baught a caravan cheap and would like to pull it with the amazon. I think the unlaiden weight of the caravan is around 900kg but could be wrong. The inside length of the caravan is 4.5m. So about the average length. Any ideas?

Hi Dean,
I've towed a large Brian James flatbed trailer with my AH Sprite on it (trailer weight about 500 / 600kg, Sprite weight about 750kg) on several occasions with my Amazon. Steep hills weren't that fun, but on the flat it would cruise ok at 60 mph. However, the low first gear (4.5 diff) is definately needed for hill starts! Paul |
Thanks paul, I will try it out at the weekend.

I regularly tow my 1978 Safari Caravan behind my 131. The recommended maximium towed weight is 85% of the cars weight.
For my saloon the laden weight is given as 1252kg. This gives a max caravan weight of 1064kg. My caravan has an unladen weight of 820kg (max laden weight 1100kg) so with the normal bits carried in the caravan I am near the max weight but not over it. It cruises nicely at 50-55mph with no snaking, but on an A road incline I often find a drop to third gear is required to maintain this speed. My only problem is that my sport exhaust system is very low when the caravan is attached and I have to watch out for road humps and ferry ramps etc. http://community.webshots.com/photo/...58258802poUmFd Brian M |

There should be a weight plate on it somewhere, either on the 'A' frame of the towbar, or often near the door, which has the UL weight, but these do have a habit of falling off! |
