i say rica 280, dont think you will notice much between the 2. you can allways put a few turns on the gate if you want and extra psi or 2.

i say give both a test drive and see what you like. i wonder if vt have changed things like spool up and throttle response to make customers choose the 304 program which makes em more money.

considering that i doubt your car or others for that fact will record 304 on a dyno i say get the 280.

or see whether they will do a deal on a custom map that is matched to your car.

I'm sure Adam could let you try both. I've got the 305 and it transformed the car, cant comment on the 280 version as I've never experienced it. Its definately a must do though.

You definately notice the difference between the two. However...

On the 850 models we now tend to recommend the 280 upgrade for the simple reason that you often need to spend money on other items to get the car up to scratch so that you can make the most of the 304. For the 850 models with high mileage and owners not wanting to spend a fortune on them, the 280 upgrade is for that purpose.

By opting for the 280, not only does it cost you less to buy, it lets you run on 95 all day long and is not so picky about things like plugs etc, so overall it costs less to run too.

Price for the 280 is £290 + VAT and includes diagnostics and testing.

Price for the 304 is £400 + VAT and includes diagnostics, actuator adjustment, and other post upgrade checks to ensure maximum performance.

Hi Adam, can you go into more detail about the "other items" ? The engine in my car has done 65k (as has turbo) but the g/box and rest of the car has done 122k? Maybe I could bring my car up to you so you can see if it is "up to scratch" for the 304?

I'm not too worried about running costs, my mileage is mega low so I'm happy to put Optimax in all the time if needs be, it doesn't make a huge difference to my fuel bill at less than 5k miles a year :)

Fuel economy didnt vary much with my car after the upgrade. I still get on average 26/27 mpg driving quite hard.

It would be also very useful to list the expected performance increases in bhp and torque or have a link to data showing the expected performance increases after chipping that forum members can expect if they invest in your products.

Why did everyone stop posting? Just about nearly convinced myself that this was an essential 'item' for my T5.
Just incase anyone reads this, the 280 would be best if no more mods were going to be made yes???

Good day Richard,

Just to restate the case once again....

With the earlier 850 T5 or T5R you will never, ever see a figure in excess of 280bhp for just a software rewrite on one of these cars.

They are limited in this respect by any number of mechanical shortcomings, to say nothing of increased wear and tear on these ageing vehicles. To take the matter further you would be hard pressed to see 285bhp with minimum expenditure of £1500 or so more than a software rewrite on an engine in first class order on one of these older cars.

There is now a large and still growing body of evidence that this is the true position on these earlier cars.

It is just a plain lack of honesty..maybe stupidity or gullibility for any party, be they a supplier or user to make exagerated and/or unachievable claims for a product and its effect in this respect.
