Record from on board cameras?

I have recently bought an XC40 first edition. The on board parking camera is crystal clear and I was thinking it would be perfect as an alternative to a dash cam (especially the front) and save having a separate device.
Has anyone heard of anyone doing this? It would be simple in principle to attache a memory stick and have it always on in the background....

There is an argument that cars these days have increasingly complicated electronics and it is best not to interfere in any way.

The latest version of the on call app now has an opt-in for recording video footage for 30s or so before and after an accident for “R&D” use. So the functionality is already on the vehicle it’s just wether Volvo will let you access it.

Is be interested to read about the on call app update, where did you hear about that? Haven't noticed it in my settings. I wonder if the recording is made available to insurance companies.

In the VOC app Go to settings / privacy settings / active safety data recorder.

In the event of an accident will Volvo provide the Active Safety Data Recordings to us/Insurance Company upon request?

It would be interesting to see someone test this either from a freedom of information request or at the direction of a court. What’s puzzling is that it’s a feature that many people would find desirable to have on their car so it would be a win-win for Volvo if they left you do this.
