XC90 2016 Tailgate/Boot problem

When I press the button to release the boot, it opens a few inches, then beeps and closes shut, as though it has detected an interference and is shutting for safety reasons. The only way to open it is to manually open it, but then the button to close it doesn't work.

Not sure if the sensor (don't know where this is?)needs cleaning or it's something else.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

The shocks on the auto opening/closing tailgates go wrong quite often. If this is the case, you will need to replace them. Around 500 just for the parts but its a DIY job.
Check the video here and see if it looks similar to yours. Not very detailed but I am not youtuber

Have tried opening the tailgate manually then holding the close button for over 3 seconds until a beep is heard (setting up max opening position) then try opening it normally.
Might be worth cleaning foot opening sensor as well.

Thanks for the suggestions.
If I press the close button down, it does beep.
Do I then close it manually and try again as normal or is there another step?
I've also noticed that sometimes it does open as it should when I press the release button on boot or key, but then nothing will happen when I press the close button?

How would I know if it is the shocks?

Many thanks

There is a control module for the tailgate but I think the most likely issue will be the shocks.
I guess, there is no way to know for sure without replacing the schock but I think the module will give you an error if it was the module itself.

Once you hold down the button until it beeps, release it then press it once to close, then open as normal.

Thanks. I'll give the reset a go.

For the shocks replacement, are they also referred to as the gas struts which lift up the boot? Just want to make sure I'm talking about the right parts!

Tried the tailgate reset but after pressing the button until it beeps, nothing happens.

Any advice?

When it beeps it means that it has stored the new boot lid opening position. After that, it should work as intended.
To reset the operation, you can open the boot lid fully manually and then close it manually again.

Button beeps and followed manual closing and opening, but button completely unresponsive.
