1951 Jupiter with Volvo B18 and M41 OD

This car was fitted with a rebuilt engine and transmission from an early P1800.
The work was done in the 1980's. The car will need quite a lot of work but it could be made to run without too much trouble. It handled very well when I last used it in 1991. |
Wow what a fantastic car
I've only ever dared to dream of a Javelin - for me a Jupiter is unobtainable. |
That is a very interesting conversion.
Talking about Jowetts, I once turned down the option to buy, in the late '60s, an up and running Javelin for £10. It was a very advanced car for it's time, but, being more accustomed to SV Fords at the time, the engineering complexity put me off! There is also a chap local to me who still runs a 1947 Bradford van cum estate, that his Father bought brand new. Apparently, he passed his test in the car, in, IIRC, 1959. Now, at approaching 80, he still drives the car to local shows. I don't recall seeing a Jupiter in the metal outside of a show or museum. They were a rarity even when new - today they are more like hens' teeth! Regards, John. |

Fantastic lines to the Javelin - much like the Jupiter... ...wow - just wow! When it comes to British cars of that age for me it is Jowetts and perhaps stretching to a Pathfinder rather than the more obvious alternatives. |
I went in a Javelin as a kid in the 50's,thought it was amazing to seat 6....so advanced for the day....then realised much later on ,how much greater the Lancia was...😜
|
But did the Lancia rust faster than the Javelin?
|
I hope someone saves it
|
Worth a lot more with the original engine.

I've had a Tiger 100 engined Triton so I know what you are saying there. However, the flat 4 in the Javelin/Jupiter did make the car a bit special. If it had used an basic inline 4 I'd be less worried about the change. The B18 conversion much better suited to the MG TC and TD and that conversion was common in the USA.
