Coolant change and thermostat query
Hi guys
Changed the coolant on my 145 last night and have a couple of questions. I could not drain the block as the drain plug, it looks like its made of brass, is damaged so I left well alone. I just flushed as much as I could using the bottom radiator hose method and then went for neat antifreeze in the rad hoping the it will all mix up together with water that was left in the block. Is there really 10 litres of coolant in these B20s? I have a feeling that there may not be a thermostat in the engine and it does not seem to get pressurised. I did not have a new thermostat gasket so I could not whip it off to have a look. Is there any way that I can check if it does have one? The temperature reaches about a third on the gauge and stays there. There seems to be no pssssshhhhhhh when taking off the expansion cap or radiator cap. Cheers Tony |
If your gauge is accurate then yes it seems yyour thermostat may be stuck open or missing . so your engine will not be fuel efficient and you will have a poor heater best get a new one to start with .. A 92 C one from a volvo dealer ..The reason that you get no pressure build up is probably a leaking pressure cap on the coolant bottle so best get one of those too !

New thermostat installed, new expansion bottle cap, nice 50/50 mix and a temperature needle that now goes sits around the middle of the gauge. You don't by any chance know much about carbs do you? ;-/ Cheers Tony |
yes, know about the carbs :-)
