Dpf problems

Hi guys newbie here having problems with my XC90, first of all when i bought the car it wouldnt rev up cause the filter was chocked. I the removed the dpf and broke up all the old honeycomb from inside it built it back up to see if it would run or rev up, am getting a engine managment code and wondered wat could be the fault before i go and buy a new dpf or get it remaped. The code is 2A20 particulate filter faulty signal, any infor would be appreciated thanks.

If you broke up the internals of the DPF, then the DPF has been destroyed.

The pressures before and after will now be implausible, and this will be noted by the engine management system.

You need a new DPF.

Hi swiss thanks for your reply u reckon it would be better to have the car remapped or just fitting a new dpf? Thanks

Having the DPF missing or "messed about with" (opened up, gutted and built back up again) will be an MOT fail.

Get a replacement fitted.

Cheers

Its an MOT failure to have a missing DPF (on a car that has one, like yours).

You have no option only fit a new one, as you destroyed the other.

You definitely need a new DPF BUT you need to find out why the old one became clogged.

The DPF on these engines is no trouble at all provided everything else on the engine is operating correctly.

The point that I am making is that the DPF was not the problem , something else gave the DPF a problem.

If you simply fit a new DPF it will end up just like the old one, clogged and probably with an accompanying " Soot filter full message "

I would start by checking all of the intercooler pipework and the intercooler itself.

A remap will not cure an underlying problem.

If possible, get someone local with Vida ( Volvo diagnostice ) to see what codes it throws up.

Fit a new DPF or known good 2nd hand DPF.

These vehicles are only approved for use on public roads with a fitted, functioning DPF.

If you remove the DPF and wish to operate the vehicle, you can only do so off public roads (such as on race tracks, farms and such like).

My car was used on a farm by an old farmer and putterd around the estate hence the reason the dpf was choked, the other fault im having is the dpf pressure sensor is reading a pressure of 65535.0 hpa could the dpf be causing the pressure problem?

SwissXC90 Jun 5th, 2021 06:40

A broken / dismantled DPF will cause a pressure problem.

However, 65535
= binary 1111111111111111
= hex FFFF

which is a maximum value

This indicates a disconnected or short circuited sensor

If it was mine I'd remap it.
