Hi all I Just wanted to say thanks to all the people who have posted regarding the issue of the pesky boot refusing to open. I just wanted to consolidate the advice given by others as I took a lot of reading to work out the problem and how to fix it.
It is either the boot micro switch or the wiring that is at fault. The external boot handle can be removed by 4 torox screws from outside the car. When removed unplug the electrical connector and with a paper clip poke it into the plug on the car end to activate the boot mechanism. If this opens the boot the micro switch is faulty if nothing happens it's the wiring.
The next problem is how do you set about the wiring if the boot will not open? the wiring runs through from the corner of the boot lid into the car so with the boot stuck shut your in trouble. Best advice I found on here is to lower the back seats to get into the boot then remove the cloth trim panel by prising out the plastic round clips(some will break but you will be left with enough to reattach the trim later. Also you need to prise off the plastic finger pull on the trim panel as this holds it in as well as the clips).With this trim off you will see three 10mm bolts on the boot lock undo them and the boot will open leaving the lock in place.
Now you can get at the wiring .In the boot on the left side is a muti plug unplug this and prise off the mounting clips along the wire leading to the rubber grommet that passes to the outside. Pull the grommet out of the car end at the boot end you will need to undo two torox bolts to remove the grommet cover the just pull that out and again prise off the clips up the wire that run along the inside of the boot lid. You should have the boot handle wiring unplugged from removing the handle and the lock multi plug should be off too. Now you can take the wire away strip it back to find what wire/wires are broken and repair then re fit.
The wiring to the boot is the width of human hairs and is so crappy its unbelievable. A new loom is available at around £50 .
