auto gear shift lever

Ive a 2000 v40 auto that just turned 88k on the odometer....a few months back the selector indicator arrow (small red nub) on the shifter flange failed....now I must remove the plastic shroud the shifter lever extends through to replace the part.....also the bulb failed a few years ago that lights the selector prd12 so I will replace the bulb as well.....anyone aware of how the shifter knob is removed....again auto-shift.....looks like most of uk drives a manual....thanks for the help ahead of time...pasadena, ca

Well done. Perhaps you could share your experience of how to remove the auto gear shifter. Thanks.

shifter

Researched the issue at various google sites and found that the shifter-knob simply pulls straight off the shift-bar by depressing the button and pulling up..

Was able to find after visiting several wrecking yards the correct plastic shroud to a 2000 s/v40 which had the selector mechanism intact ($25).

Removed the old shroud, installed the new bulb ($8) from the dealer then popped in the replacement shroud. Used a thin utility blade to ease the shroud from its positioning.

Only thing tricky is making sure the selector is lined up in the correct position in relation to the shifter...this small plastic leg looks like it could easily be broken...(in-fact) this is the piece that was broken on my old shifter.

Re-install the shifter by depressing the button as you push it down onto the shift-bar.

How did you remove the shroud as I have an issue with the bulb.
