v70 2.5d 2000 phase2 engine
hi
i'm a newbie so if i've got anything wrong please let me know. i've just got my v70 2.5d i have had a look around the internet and just need to know which engine i have in it. it is a year 2000 v reg, which is the newer shape which ran till 2007. it just says 2.5d on the badge. i think it is the vw/audi engine but i'm not sure. does it have a turbo? is it effected by the etm issues i have read about? sorry for the lack of knowledge, i haven' had a volvo for a few years after having a 460, which i loved the v70 is a lovley car and perfect with the 7 seats. thanks phill |
A "V" reg is a phase 1 - I have a "W" reg Tdi phase 1, one of the last made. Phase 2's started on W reg so if you do mean "W" reg then it's got a D5252T Audi engine (The D5254T does not exist - it's a mistake on this site). It has a turbo. This engine was used until 2002 when the D5 came out. It has an etm but I'm not sure if there's an issue with the diesel - mine is fine at 197k. Regards.

I think you'll find they are "Ex Dealer Demonstrators" (Supplied to the dealers for the Launch of the Phase 2 at "W" reg") .... With regards to the Engine if you go on the VW or Tdi Forums you'll find SHED LOADS of info on them .. (BTW Bill is Correct there is NO SUCH AN ENGINE as a D5254T it IS a Mistake on this site) The "Early" Diesel Phase two's had a D5252T VW/Audi Engine (To 2002) The "Later" Diesel Phase two's had a D5244T Volvo D5 Engine (2002 to Present) |
I didn't know there were any V reg phase 2's. Well you live and learn. Regarding badging btw "Tdi" was used on earlier phase 1 V70 diesels up to maybe 99 then 2.5D was used on the last of the phase 1's and continued on the phase 2 until 2002 when it changed to D5 (a 5cyl common rail turbo diesel).
The Audi is an excellent engine imv. It is a 5 cyl direct injection, a bit clattery but very efficient as you have found. Cambelt changes (by someone who knows the engine) are essential every 80k, maybe with new waterpump at 160k. Regards. |
Thanks for the info I love the car and with the 7 seats and full history was a bargain. It was fun burning up a land cruiser as well lol
