Battery Indicator on B4 XC40 ?

Can anybody tell me what the battery shaped indicator signifies at the 6 o'clock position on the rev counter. Periodically when braking it turns blue. Can find nothing in owner manual. Thanks

It's a form of KERS (kinetic energy regeneration system) that charges the battery.

The battery symbol doesn't do very much at all. It doesn't indicate how much charge is in the 48v Hybrid battery, it just lights up when the battery is being charged (i.e. when braking). Other Hybrid manufacturers show the state of the battery plus how much power is being generated, or being used at any given time. Not sure why Volvo bothered. Very poor effort.

Volvo shows these values of 48V battery (and hybrid plug-in battery) only via OBD2 port. You need obd2 dongle and a phone app Car Scanner ELM OBD2
