V40 CC T5 Japanese Import - SatNav help wanted...

Hi fellow Volvo people - nice to be here!

I've just acquired a 2015 V40 CC 2 litre auto T5, which has recently been imported from Japan (via a specialist importer here in the UK).

It's in great condition, if a little high on the mileage (88,000), which is fine because I don't travel more than a few thousand per year.

SatNav is, however, an issue (there are no others that I'm aware of, and all the other screens/menus work well), inasmuch as there's no menu to enter an address, street, city or postcode.

I have the latest software (installed twice, once by the importers and again by a Volvo dealer), it's all reading correctly in English (with a few Japanese characters on the "wheel"), but the only way I can programme it to get me anywhere is by inputting (wait for it) a LANDline 'phone number, or a point-on-the-map!

Anyone with any thoughts/ideas, please let me know.

Many thanks...

Did you change the region of the satnav? There is engeniering mode in the unit to change the region. The next question is if the importer change the language only or region for the car?

Here is the link how to do it : https://d5t5.com/wiki/wiki/article-v...-change-region

SatNav - the ongoing saga...

Thanks very much for the response, ele288, and the Wiki link 👍🏻

To the best of my knowledge, the people who imported the vehicle have installed and updated the UK maps (plus, they re-uploaded them at my local Volvo dealer), so I'm assuming the importers also changed the region because all the non SatNav menus are in English, and they all work.

However, the SatNav part of the display doesn't have anywhere you can enter a city, town, village, street or postcode, and the only two options to make it work are to enter a landline telephone number (when the keypad allows me to, which it doesn't every time), or I can "try" to use the "point on map" command (haven't worked out how to do that yet).

I have quite a few photos of the SatNav display when it's sort-of working, and, on two of the screens, there are some black rectangles, as though part of the screen has been blocked out or is effectively missing - especially after pressing the very first "Set Destination" command (the most important one).

The mystery continues, as does my research.

I fear I might just have to use my iPhone, which I don't really want to do.

Either that or look at the Apple CarPlay/Android units you can buy which attach to the windscreen or dashboard - but they have to be plugged in to the 12V power and, if you want to use the car's speaker system, another messy lead has to connect from the unit to the car's AUX input.

Sigh.

Thanks again, ele288 🙃

There another way, you can disable Most at dealer and use used unit (around 50 on ebay) the only issue may be with screen, sometimes they don't work if the car is from another region like import from USA and EU.

4 years ago I bought a Lexus which was a direct import from Japan, and try as I did I couldn't get it to work. My only option it seemed was to buy a used dvd drive from a breakers so I didn't bother, especially as the system was so out of date anyway.

The satnav on my Accord Euro R won't go anywhere west of Korea. It thinks the car patrols the ocean south of Seoul.

Thanks ele, Phil and Wagon...

I'm gathering there's probably no way around this - unless I can find a unit with the exact same parameters as mine from a wrecker or eBay or similar.

I say this because, as research suggests, the layout of the centre console and all the buttons thereon have to be the same as on my model or they potentially won't work properly 🙄

So, not wanting to lose the rest of the functionality of the menus on the current screen (or any of them for that matter), it's a risk not worth taking.

Now looking at the "Carpuride" CarPlay/Android units which are seemingly the way to go with respect a working SatNav plus a wireless connection to my 'phone, as well as being able to play music through the V40's sound-system (more research 😀).

Really appreciate your tips and feedback - great forum!

If you have vida it will show your car configuration. I know that Japan has few extra settings in the system that no one else has. If your car has satnav with globe its easy swap. Can you check from the menu waht version of maps you have? You can update the maps from USB, they are on volvo website.

Remember that volvo is using Most protection so to implement car play it has to be disabled and it has to be on the fiber optic network.
