Door lock

Strange thing just happened with my 940 drivers door lock, went out to the car, central locking worked just fine, all doors unlocked, pulled the trigger on the drivers door handle, it just clicked and pulled toward the handle but would not open the door, I had to reach over from passenger side to open it, came out of the post office and the same happened again, any suggestions anyone ? David.

Possibly broken the little plastic bracket inside. That's a common fault. I remember it being readily available due to being such a common fault.

Many thanks, can you (or anyone) show the bracket you mean brfore I start taking the door panel off, if its a common fault I may as well get one first, David

Just looked at a picture of a door handle, did you mean the little white thing inside the handle itself..

That's the one. I've just remembered it's actually metal but has a white coating.

Thanks for your help, I've just ordered one from Parts Monster for £16.15, for such a low price I thought worth getting, David.

My new door handle arrived today from Parts Monster, obviously not a genuine Volvo one, see attached photo's, both the parts my pencil points to are plastic, which is the one that normally breaks, David.

I bought one of those, the handle obviously didn't match my 20 year old weathered one so I removed the plastic lever and fit it to my original handle.

The lever on earlier 940 ones are black and apparently stronger than the later white version.

This site sells metal versions for 960s but pretty sure they're the same.

I find this very strange, having said my drivers door lock/handle was not working, and have now purchased a new one ready to be fitted, the last four/five times the handle has worked as normal, I've not even looked at it yet, just can't understand why it was not working and is now working, very strange indeed ! now do I pull the door card off and see what's going on or leave well alone. David.

That's the first thing I would have done, especially before spending any money! Besides, if the fault's occurred once then it probably will again at some point in the future
