Tires
Hi Guys,
Had new heavy duty springs fitted 89 240 gl estate. Now looking for best tires x4,,It has 185/80/R14 Hankook on at present. Any recommendations as to best ones to get....And would it need better ones on rear because of springs. Regards Adrain,,!!!! |
If you are dead set on that tyre size, the options seem a little limited, from my quick search. If you opted for a 185/70/14 there are far more options (better tyres) available. Are you looking for outright grip, better cornering and braking, or more concerned with tyre noise and fuel efficiency or perhaps budget?
There is no need to opt for different tyres on different axles, at least to my knowledge. Continental Conti Ultra Contact https://www.camskill.co.uk/m4b0s388p..._Noise%3A_70dB Falken Sincera SN110 Ecorun https://www.camskill.co.uk/m4b0s388p..._Noise%3A_69dB Both have A rated grip in the wet. |

The 240 estates run on 185/80/14 rather than 175/80/14 tyres; 205/70/14 have a near identical rolling radius. Going from an 80- to a 70-profile will necessitate going up 2 cross-sections to keep the speedo accurate. With 185/70s acceleration will improve but top speed and fuel economy will suffer as the gearing is shorter. |
Yep, there will be a 6% reduction in rolling radius.
As such your speedo will under-read 30mph -28.2 45mph - 42.3 70mph - 65.8 6% more revs for any given speeds. |
