S60 d5 buying advice

Hi all,

This is my first post and I am looking at d5 s60s at the minute with a view to purchasing one in the 2.5 - 5k range preferably face lifted model with d5 185 manual. I am aware of potential DPF issues but the car will be doing 100 miles/week so that should not be an issue. After looking at many different cars I have seen a rather tempting 2006 d5 SE on autotrader here: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/used-car...2731206?desc=1
Spec looks good (nav-unit etc. which I haven't seen on any other 2006 models) plus it's 85k miles, has a full service history and is at only £3,750. Any thoughts and opinions would be greatly appreciated as I am in Ireland and would be travelling over to the UK at Easter if the right s60 could be found. Is this one too good to be true? Thanks in advance.

£3750 for an 8 year old car that's been around the world 3 and a half times really isn't too good to be true. :)
It's an S60, so they're not worth a lot, which is great because I happen to really like them.

Thanks

toebar...

Looks nice, wheres the catch? .. i notice a towbar .. someone once suggested avoiding any car that had been used for towing as the gearbox and drivetrain may have taken a bashing.. maybe budget for a clutch slave and clutch / poss dmf in the near future ?

Hmm, 5k miles a year.. Just to ensure you are aware... a single weekly journey of 100 miles would probably be OK, but if you're commuting 10 miles each way, five days a week, you really don't want a DPF car.

But quite apart from DPF, at 5k miles a year, why not snap up a T5 or even just a 2.0T? Both are far nicer to drive and, if you ever carry passengers, far nicer to be driven in. And contrary to urban myth, the MPG is not that far apart; the petrol cars will achieve about 75% of diesels' MPG in like-for-like comparisons. That's Volvos figures not mine, though I can testify they proved accurate for me, having migrated from diesel S60 to petrol.

If in good condition it isn't overpriced unless you are in the trade.
Remember also that is the asking price not what they might sell it for.
Why would you buy a t5 or a 2 ltr anyway?
