ATS Alloys

Hi, Anyone got a set of ATS alloys in useable or better condition they would consider selling?

No; but, if you are willing to accept reproductions I believe both VP and CVI are selling them. I have the original Volvo accessory ATS 5 spoke wheels on my 142 and I purchased a single reproduction from VP. The reproduction is good; but, not exact. For one the finish on the reproductions is higher gloss whereas the original wheels are very much 'as cast'. The profiles are also much smoother. You will also note on close inspection little 'dodges' such as the reproductions have AT8 rather than ATS cast onto the wheels. I purchased the reproduction to have as a spare (literally). It is so much lighter than the original Volvo steel rim which makes getting the spare out of the trunk significantly easier for an old guy.

If the reproduction and original rims are on the car at the same time, most people will not notice the difference. Vintage Volvoistas will probably spot the differences. The reproductions will probably be much cheaper than trying to source an original set of 5 spoke Volvo ATS wheels (unless they are seriously bent).

They are also selling reproductions of the ATS alloy wheels that came factory installed on the 1800. These are much more common than the 5 spoke wheels and you may be able to pick up an original set for a price that is less than the cost of the reproductions. However, the used versions of these wheels that I have seen would require surface refinishing to look good.

Thanks some very good info. A guy I’ve bought other parts from looks like he has a set of refurbished wheels so hopefully they are decent and not too expensive.

There is another style from the 262c but they are rare as hens teeth by the look.

I was doing a zoom call with some Amazon guys last night and one of the guys mentioned when he owned a 164 way back when he had a set of the ATS wheels and used a hubcap for a 73 144 (needs checking) in the centre section of the ATS wheels. He got the idea from a Danish calendar he had at the time. Not seen any pics of this on my search of the internet though but he though it looked good.

Was sent some pics this morning. Hubcaps from 71 to 74 and need centre screw and rubber seal.

Attached a pic of the 262c wheel as well.

Taste is subjective. That said, the chrome hubcap center on the ATS wheel is not working for me. I suspect that the hubcaps (referred to as Baby Moons in North America) may have been a fix for damaged or lost original center caps on the ATS wheels.

If you do find a set of original ATS 5 spoke wheels, be aware that the little chromed plastic center caps will likely have had the crap beaten out of them. The center piece with the chrome Vee on the black background can fall off the actual cap. A low cost fix for that is black stickers with the Vee that you can apply to replace the original center.

OK as long as you don't look at them from a distance less than about 5 m. The retaining ears on the center caps tend to fracture over time which results in them becoming loose and eventually popping out when you hit a hard bump. A couple of dabs of clear silicone seal can provide a little security for old caps. Reproduction center caps are now available from CVI , VP and I expect others.

Note that if you purchase the reproduction 5 spoke AT'8' wheels, they do not come with a center cap. There is now also a gloss black version of the AT'8' wheel available. Once again, taste being subjective, they don't work for me.

I have attached a picture of my car with the original Volvo ATS wheels - no Moon Caps!

Thanks, yeah not too keen on the hub cap addition either.

I did a bit of internet stalking and found your pics yesterday, the wheels look good and suit the car.

For info cheapest I have seen for the repo ones is VP autoparts and they include the centre caps: https://vp-autoparts.se/en/artiklar/...0-164-240.html

I have a set of 5 spoke from a 740 think this is what you are looking for. Am in Aberdeenshire. Not sure how to add photo but they are same as ones in other replies to your message.
