Lower soot, higher mpg.
 

Morning all,
Not sure if this has been brought up before, but I thought I'd share my findings.

So, I usually use cheapo supermarket diesel and occasionally run some miller ecoplus cleaner through, just to keep things clean, but recently my local costco has opened up a petrol station, so I thought I'd give it a go.
It's about 10p cheaper than sainsburys for premium diesel which always gives my car a bit of pep and much smoother running.
Anyway, been running on it for a few months now, and I've noticed my mpg has been creeping up, so I did a bit of investigating, generally my dpf regens about twice per tank and the rate of soot is fairly steady (mobile app)
On the new fuel the soot production is about half and the dpf only regens maybe once per tank, so obviously using less fuel.
Just thought I'd share this as I've always thought of premium fuel as snake oil, and a waste of money.

Please tell us what age and car type, engine, etc., you have, annual miles and what the mpg has changed from and too

Its not the fuel, which in the UK originates from one of four sources regardless of the brand.

Its the cleanliness of their storarge, and the diligence of their tanker drivers in depositing the correct brew in the correct tank - their tanks are clean and no one has, it would seem, dumped several hundred litres of unleaded in before realising their mistake, or at least not recently.

It will be down to the additives in the fuel which make it burn cleaner and help clean everything.

You can’t put any fuel into the wrong tanks at garages without people knowing well not the last few years anyway.

The car is a 2012 D5 v70 with 347k miles on the clock, I do about 60k per year and I service it every 10k
It used to sit around 51mpg average its now on about 57mpg
I know it might not sound a lot but with the miles I do it soon makes a difference.
