!*&&*$!**!&....Headlights not working!

Folks-

any suggestions. The flippin headlights have failed on me.

I turn the switch to side lights - they come on no problem as do the dash lights

I turn the switch to headlights and ALL lights go out - side lights dash lights rear lights..oh, and the headlights don't come on.

any ideas?

Sounds like something is shorting out or possibly a bad earth on the main beam.

my guess too - kicked in after a speed bump - looks like a weekend's testing job

Yup, half an hour with a multi meter and you should find the problem.

I'm thinking its a bad earth

Scooters,
There is a relay that turns off the lights when the ignition is turned off , probably burned out or loose wiring I do not have a diag handy and do not know the model year of you car , on our US cars it is mounted on the pedal bracket ( 4 pin relay )

This is an '89 car IIRC - if it is then the common points would be either the light switch on the dash, or the common 'rail' under the bonnet (near the top on the nearside inner wing panel - a black plastic box with a 'pop off' cover).

It's a good idea to clean this, and all the fuses inside by the passenger footwell, when you get a 240 - perhaps you did.

yeah,

i suspect the switch. a mate at work had exactly the same problem with a v40. dodgey switch
