ETM Software upgrade & clean no longer free

I contacted volvo uk today to arrange for the free software upgrade and clean to be told that it finished last month, now no longer free but maybe free at the discretion of the individual dealership.

I would not mind I took the car to Rybrook Liverpool a couple of months ago before they closed and they told me that it did not need doing without looking at the car.

Anybody know what they charge for the clean and software upgrade now and what is the latest cost of replacing the unit

Thanks

back to the ETM

I believe volvo is offering 10 years and 100,000 miles warranties on the new ETMs.

The clean and software update was a campaign which also used DVLA database to write to affected customers. Such campaigns are only given so long to run as by now all those who received letters should have had the work done.

I guess anyone looking to buy a P2 can call the volvo uk information service to check if the previous owner had the campaign carried out or not.

also, the campaign only applies once. customers cannot apply for repeated throttle body cleaning for free. That's a maintenance item at servicing and the campaign was a freebie clean and some new software.

all manufacturers will have a close date for campaigns due to budgeting in local markets etc.

if you can actually get your hands on an ETM!! - I have been waiting 2 months now with the engine service light on. The clean and software did cure it for a little while but it has now come back again

No it's not, Magnetti Marelli apparently aren't in business anymore.

Free ETM software update and Throttle Clean

Hi guys,

Where do we now stand in terms of the software update and throttle clean?

I have just been charged around £100 for the throttle clean (I'm assuming it was just the throttle clean and not the software ypdate for that price?)

I now understand from reading this thread that Volvo UK were using DVLA detials to contact owners with affected cars. They never wrote to me so I was only made aware of this problem recently and now they don't pay for the work to be done even though I have an email from them from June this year stating that they would.

Where do I stand?

AFAIK it was a "goodwill" campaign which is now over, so you have a car with a component which has worn out outside of the warranty period and will be expected to foot the bill for repairing it just like with any other component. :(

Since you have a mail from them stating they would pay for the work you may be able to get it sorted still, depends exactly what the mail says. I'd contact Volvo again ref that email and ask them.

Best of luck.

Cheers,
John

Thanks John,
This is what the email says:

Thank you for your e-mail dated 12th June 2008. May we take this
opportunity to apologise for the delay in responding?

Having checked our records we note that your vehicle falls into the
category of vehicles that potentially have ETM issues.

We would suggest that you contact your local Volvo Franchise Dealership
so they can investigate the issues you are having with your vehicle.

If the diagnosis confirms that the ETM is causing the hesitation then
Volvo Cars UK Limited will indeed cover the cost of the ETM upgrade and
throttle clean for its customers.

Thank you for taking the time to contact Volvo Customer Relations. If
you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us on
