Knocking noise on coasting

The missus came home in the XC90 today and informed me it has started making a knocking noise when she lifts off on the accelerator. :( I took the car out and sure enough when you lift off there is a tapping/knocking noise coming from the front end. Tried coasting in both drive and in neutral and the noise is there. Pressing the brake pedal stops the noise as does accelerating again. The noise sounds like it is linked to something rotating rather than just loose. I've checked the front brakes and they are fine, so am stuck to as what it could be. Any one experienced similar or have any ideas?

Check your bolts are tight on your front wheels. Even an 1/8 of a turn tighter may resolve the problem. Quick & easy fix if so.

I fitted new reluctor rings a few thousand miles ago, when I had the ABS light come on (and had check the sensors and changed some of the sensors.

A few weeks ago I tightened my wheel bolts when I had the low speed knocking when coasting and it fixed the problem,….and now in Southern Bavaria, no problem.

jack up each corner and spin each wheel in turn to see if you can narrow down the cause of the sound.

And check the CV gaiters at the same time as well as looking for a stone caught between the disc and backing shield.

ROTF look at the OP posting date,:teeth_smile:
