‘97 V90 MOT failure.
 

Afternoon all,

I’ve a silver V90 that I’m selling. It’s a casualty of lack of use over the last couple of years and was a daily driver until 2020. It actually got me to the Alps very comfortably in 2019 loaded with snowboard gear and has made several similar trips with me over the years.

Having had a local garage inspect it, it needs new brakes all round and a new catalytic converter. It also needs a good service.
It’s still running and the bodywork’s very good and the wheels were refurbed a couple of years ago. The interior is very good too. In my opinion it’s far too good to break but I don’t have the time or space to work on it sadly.

I’m really struggling to put a value on it with so few around but am open to any offers. It would be good to see it go to someone here rather than posting it on eBay.

I’ve plenty of photos but looks like the files are too big so I’ll post later but if anyone’s interested just give me a shout. It’s a great car.

Sorry, mileage obviously.
It’s 170k. Never had any issues with the engine and full Volvo history until around 120k with local specialists and garages since with receipts.
It’s not gone in for MOT but been advised the brakes, cat will fail. Brakes all replaced just before lockdown frustratingly.

Brakes should be fine then. What was replaced ? Discs and pads or calipers all round

MOT expired during lockdown 2021 and battery went flat (since replaced). Tax was rolling over on direct debit waiting on me but can’t justify sorting it sadly.
It’s an honest car and if it were down to me, I’d lose the boring XC60 and spend the money getting the V90 up to scratch.

Sunroof covered as a precaution during this storm but hasn’t leaked in the entire time it’s been standing.

How much are you looking for ? I think you will really need to have a price in mind. No MOT and potential brake work and a new cat doesn't make the car that enticing.

I'd hazard a guess that if you're wanting to realise the maximum income you'd be best breaking it and selling off the spares. but of course you're then stuck with a dwindling carcass on the drive.

Without an MOT, and in need of a catalytic convertor it's a bit daunting to to a buyer. Have you priced this up? New brakes all round wouldn't be such a big deal, and everything is available, reasonably easy to do, and not expensive.

Would it be worth at least getting the MOT done? Then you'd know for sure what would need to be done to get the car roadworthy, and give some confidence to a prospective buyer too. You're OK to take an untaxed and untested car for a booked MOT, provided that the car is essentially roadworthy. If the brakes don't work then that might not be an option!

Don't know if they are near you but National Tyres for example will do a test for £35 if booked online, and it could be £35 well spent.

Values are on the up, with some cars being advertised for thousands. Old Volvo estates can definitely be worth good money, but of course as with any old car MOT, history and condition are the big deciding factors!

But were it mine, I'd be tempted if possible to get the MOT done and by that means at least know what the essential facts are.

That’s a rather nice looking car you have there! Of course you are welcome to advertise and ‘get rid’ but a friendly piece of advice (that you can take or leave) is that the vehicle may be worth a little more than you are potentially considering.

Whilst a ‘banger’ 5 years ago that could probably be picked up for £700 with a years MOT you would probably get 2 or 3 times that now with a fresh mot. You won’t have to look far for others advertising this for quite a lot more.

A catalytic converter was rare and EV pensive when this was new, now it’s not. And the brakes sound fluke they may be reasonable???

If you just want rid fine, but it’s pretty much worthless as it is. With a few hundred quid in it you may do better?

Clearly I am not a car dealer, and I dont want it, but that’s my friendly advice.

Incidentally, as others have said it may be worth chucking it in for an mot itrepspective as once it has a fail sheet people know what they are buying.
