air con condensor drain pipe location
Hi all,
Has anybody actually cleared out the air con condensor drain pipe? There are several references to a pipe draining down on to the top of the cat but no references I can find of how or if it can be cleaned out without dismantling the area under the dashbord. My air con smells and doesn't appear to drip water when standing with the engine running and air con on full blowing cold. Should it? Thanks Martin |
It's under the heater matrix and only very rarely blocks because the condensation from the a/c is very pure. How much it drips depends on how humid it is, on a humid warm day you can get a decent pool of water under the car quite quickly (within a couple of minutes) but it depends how cold the system is getting, ambient temperature and humidity.
Aircon smells are more likely to be bacteria in the system which can be cured with antibacterial sprays or clogged pollen filters. If you want to check if it's in place and unblocked have a look at the "how to" on replacing the heater matrix in the articles section, that will show you how to get at it from within the car. Cheers, John |
Thanks John,
i now realise also that it drains onto the cat so less likely to drip. I now don't think it's blocked but more as you say, system needs sanatising. thanks again Martin |
