V70 Pollen filter - now I am confused....

Hi,
I recently bought 2002 V70, 2.4 Petrol. It has climate control. I did all filters and oil myself and a final thing I wanted to exchange was pollen filter. I called one Volvo garage to check part number a price. They told me that part number is 30630753, but I didn't order at this point. After a week or so I called another Volvo garage and they asked me for a VIN and they found that pollen filter I should order has part number of 30630755 - the version specific for the car with climate control. So I ordered one.

I received it by post and tried to fit it. I opened a compartment where the filter is located and pulled out old one. Then I found that it differs from new one received. I was not able to insert new one, as it was thicker than existing one.

I called the garage asking them to exchange it to 30630753, and they did so, but guy over the phone told me "strange, your car should have 30630755".

I received another package with 30630753 filter and went today to fit it. I opened compartment again, pulled out old filter inserted a new one (which fitted now) and was down to close compartment when I spotted that it has a space looking like for yet another filter (I didn't spot it before). I tried to insert 30630753 into it, but the space was to large for that (there was few millimetres difference).

So I think now that the guy was right at the first order! It seems that I should have 30630755 inserted into the other part of the compartment! Am I right?

Now: what to do? I left new 30630753 in the car, but in fact I am not sure what I should have? Car was previously serviced in Volvo garages, so I believe that guys there should know what filter should be there? But why the 30630753 was there (it is a version of filter for car without climate control).

Should I have 30630755 filter? What I should do with 30630753 I have? Can (or even should?) car have both of them?

sorry I can't help you on the original part I got mine from GSF car parts and fits like a glove the only different is it don't have the plastic runing around the bottom and top of the filter a part from that it works, I do remeber when I pull my old one out it was original volvo and it was about 2cm thick and very hard to get it out, before I got this car last service was at volvo so I'm sure they install the filter.

You do not use both. If you have the thinner filter fitted in the rear most slot, I would leave it there while you consider your options.

The thicker filter (which contains activated charcoal to absorb gasses) is only for use with the optional automatic pollution sensing system. When it is enabled the system will automatically switch from outside air to recirculate if pollution is detected, and will switch back to outside air when the pollution is no longer detected.

Do you have that? If you have this option, then the recirc button will have two LEDs in it and will have the word automatic or auto above it.

There are three levels of HVAC on Volvos.

1. Manual HVAC controls. This is what I have on my V70.

2. Electronic thermostated HVAC control. My wife's XC90 has this.

3. Electronic thermostated HVAC control with optional pollution sensing feature.

The thinner filter is used for 1 and 2 and fits in the rearmost slot. The thicker filter is used for 3 and fits in the forward slot.

Take a look at this owner's manual http://new.volvocars.com/ownersdocs/...70_03.htm#pg52 and go to page 55.

Thanks for answers!

It seems that I should have thicker filter as my recirculation button is 2 LED one. :/

I am not sure what I should do now... I think I will leave it as is for now.

if you do go back and refit the filter just note that there is a polarising slot in the filter and a corresponding tab on the filter housing.

I found it useful to have a big mirror and torch

But is it applicable to both types? Or for thicker one only? I saw that thinner one can be inserted only one way, because of its shape.

It is YV1SW61P921227434.

Both filters I bought are genuine Volvo, but as I mentioned I left thinner one at the moment.
