2003 Intercooler

I dont suppose this is a common failure? but is there a place that it does usually fail, there appears to be oil being blown forward onto the front chassis member, but its difficult to see where exactly it is coming from, I dont think its the steering cooler, as the oil in the tank doesnt go down.
Is it a big job to get it out to inspect, I presume it will have to come out the engine side, after the water radiatior is removed?
Does anybody have a few pictures or a write up that would be willing to share please?

It is a common failure, normally from 60-80k miles. They fail at the bottom and split, with the oil coming from that.

You can fit it as a DIY job (have done it myself) but be prepared to take the majority of the front off the car! It took me about 3-4 hours to do it, but got the satisfaction of knowing it was done right. You don't have to fully remove the radiator - you just unbolt them from the sandwich they are in and then lift the intercooler out.

There are write ups within this forum and on the net as well - Vadis suggests a more complex way.
