XC 90 roof query
 

Hi all,

I have recently taken possession of the above vehicle which is a 2011 model year variant.

I've noticed that the rear quarter of the roof, just in front of the tailgate is covered with what appears to be either a mild steel or re-enforced plastic over the roof itself.

It has fixings built into it for roof bars.

Is there a purpose for this, or, is it just part of the design

Someone on this site stated that there is an antenna in the black (plastic?) panel on the back of the roof.

What do you mean it has fixings for roof bars? Does your vehicle have the longitudinal rails on the sides of the roof?

its where the gps, antenna things are. from memory theres at least 3 or 4 components up there which can be accessed by dropping the rear roof lining.

I thought the radio antennae are printed on the rear side windows?

Mine are. 2011 SELux.

It holds the GPS and GSM/GPRS antennas, I believe.

Doesn't blaven11 mean the black part of the roof (as in photo)?
In that case it's a special re-inforced steel plate to act as a roll-bar should the car roll over
