Brake Valve Warning Light

Trying to fathom out the electrics on my ex-rally twin-circuit '69 Amazon. Just fitted a new brake warning valve and have attached the wire to the spade connector on the valve. Does this wire then lead to the warning light on the dashboard? Mine is green and is currently missing its bulb. There is a loose spade connector hanging nearby. But shouldn't this light be red rather than green ? I think I can source an aftermarket red warning light with spade connector if this is the case......

Can't comment directly on the Amazon. On my 142 the brake circuit balance switch is connected in parallel with the parking brake (emergency hand brake) switch. Both switches complete a connection to ground when activated. The parking brake / brake system failure light on my 142 is red.

If the Amazon has a parking brake warning light and its green, then green it is.

Yes the light should be red and is the same light for the handbrake warning. When you connect the valve it will need to be set in the middle of the shuttle valve and then screw in the switch. The connector is a spade type and the wire colour is black from memory. As 142 stated they go to ground when activated thus illuminating the lamp.

As142guy says. My 70 Amazon circuit is the same with a red indicator.

SS;

OPs have pretty much covered it, but you might find this interesting: https://www.sw-em.com/OR-ing%20Circu...rake_Indicator

As far as the color of indicator goes...an oe color of Red would have been for Brake Warning light, but Green would have been for OD, so I expect some swapping of indicators may have taken place, maybe during setup for rally duty.

Cheers

Interesting read. Seems there are some major differences between the various model years.

In my Amazon, the green dashboard indicator is for the oil pressure. The brake system does not have any dashboard indicator lights whatsoever. This includes the handbrake.

Perhaps you have one of the “no frills” Amazon models?

Here is a pic of my 1970 model.

Of course, the bulb is an ordinary one (not coloured). It is the lens that is red.

Am interested in the year of your car as mine is a 66 with the same feature/or lack of. Thanks Russ

I suppose my car is a "no frills" model. No exterior mirrors, seat belts, seat recliners and such. The user manual list these things as options, at least.

My Amazon is a 1958 model.

Thanks. Yes, it's the lens that's red. I have sourced a Lucas replacement red lens and bulb. Now just need to check out the switch on the handbrake.....
