Wanted - Minilite wheels
 

I have just purchased a 122s Amazon Historic Rally Car. I am looking for Minilite or replica wheels to fit 122s or P1800.
Ideal size 5 x 5.5 x 15 et20.

Sorry I am unable to assist with the wheels. I was wondering if the car you have bought is JRB xxxD. If so I can provide some of its history before it’s rallying days.

I have Minator wheels on my non Volvo race car. They are not as light as Minilite wheels, but the look is the same. Not cheap, but less expensive than the Minilite.

Google "minator minilite wheels for volvo Amazon or p1800" and see what comes up.

I used R&R Alloys mini lite copies on my 544. They are the same size and offset as you require. Very responsible prices and quality. Happy with mine. Would send pics but don’t know how on this forum!!

A bit of history about your new purchase as promised. Car was registered as JRB xxxD when new, finished in white and came from the dealer Speeds of Alfreton Derbyshire. Dad bought the car privately from Wingerworth Chesterfield in 1970 for £620 with 70K miles on the clock and in very good condition.
In 1973 aged 17 ( old git now) I was having driving school lessons and also drove the Volvo on L plates under Dads supervision. The driving school had a Vauxhall viva HC and a Mini clubman, though I much preferred the old Volvo.
When I passed my test and still serving my apprenticeship, I was given an mot failure to repair by a neighbour, a 1964 Morris Oxford Traveller. While getting the Oxford roadworthy Dad allowed me to take the Volvo out in the evening. Dads commute to work was an 18 mile round trip mostly in heavy traffic.
In the evenings (unbeknown to him) I drove the car hard, dad would comment "what have you done to the car it runs better?" I never told him why, but these cars seem to thrive on a bit of thrashing.!
Dad retired in 1984 and kept the Volvo until 1987, by then the oil light flickered on at low revs and the crank was very easy to rotate by hand. He decided to replace the 122S after 17 years of ownership. A local man gave him £250 for it so he was pleased to have had 17 years use with very little depreciation. I think the new owner fitted a good used engine as we regularly saw it in use. Many years later I spoke to the new owner and he believes it was restored after he sold it.
I have loved these cars ever since and bought one to replace the very slow Morris Oxford. In total since 1974 I have owned 6 x 122S. My current one is one of the last ones, a 2 door in dark blue from 1970.
These Volvos are very easy to maintain and repair at home, just avoid attempting to remove the rear brake drums without a good quality puller.

Competed on numerous rallies including a trip to Monte Carlo. I was actually speaking to someone the other day who recalls following the car whilst competing in Iceland.
