New cambelt
Hello, I have my v40 D4 with 90 thousand. miles. I read some recommendation to change the cambelt after that so I did.
When picking up the car, I asked about the warranty on the new cambelt and I was surprised. The new cambelt has a warranty of 2 years or 40k miles. Shouldn't that be similar to the previous timing? 90k I don't know what brand of cambelt I got. I will be grateful for any opinions about that |
really no one has changed the timing belt on their car yet?

Given that you say you don’t know the make of cambelt you had fitted I am assuming you did not have the work done at a Volvo main dealer?
The warranty on the cambelt is almost irrelevant as a pattern part fitted at a non franchised garage will likely have only a limited warranty meaning consequential losses are not covered. So you might get £30 back to cover the cost of a new belt if you can prove a manufacturing defect, you would unlikely get the £3000 + you would need for an engine rebuild or replacement. You should check - if you went to a major chain like Halfords or Kwik Fit they may have a stronger warranty. I think at a Volvo dealer there’s a 12 month warranty on their service and repair parts and you get 12 months recovery. |
