I need all the feedback and info I can get on this very important decision.
Drove 3 XC70 examples. I'm retiring/selling my 2007 V70 base and seeking a replacement.

1) 2014 XC70, AWD 3.2l 6 cyl., non-turbo, 6-speed auto., 81,000 miles delicious looking, dealership maintained...snowy white w/light interior. $17,000.

2) 2015 XC70, FWD 2.0l 4 cyl., turbo, 8-speed auto., 119,000 miles, also delicious looking car with good service records. $13.500.

3) 2016 XC70 AWD 2.5l 5 cyl., turbo, 6-speed auto., 90,000 miles, great looking too with service records. $16,000.

I don't need AWD and I'm not the biggest fan of turbochargers so I'm a little cornered. We've had turbos in the family's Saabs so I'm not fearful of them.

The small engine with a turbo and 8-speed in the 2015 matches the wholistic view of boosted small engines with more gears. Plus it's economical.

However, the 2014 with its non-turbo 6 and lowest odometer number has appeal.

Are the turbos used on the 2.0l any good? I hear the transmission is quite good.

Any experiences, facts, scuttlebutt, musings, rumors are appreciated.

Ha-ha, I fully realize that I'm an indecisive whimp, even with 20 years into base V70 ownership who's unable to make his mind up, but AWD systems and turbos are simply things I don't want to buy.

Do Volvo turbos have "life expectancies"? ...good oil only!

Do they have Vehicle Excise Duty in the USA?

oooops! well that's easy, 3.2 all the way (bicep-emoji)

3.2 or the 2.5 for me, I think it would be the overall look and condition between these two that would decide it for me. If one was a nicer colour ect. Don’t think you can go to far wrong with either of them.

These vehicles are all here in the US and within 100 miles of me.
A state sales tax is what would be involved.

I think we might be in danger of confusing our taxes.

We have a sales tax in the UK. This is the dreaded value added tax or VAT, currently 20%, which is charged to the end user. Retail sales are often stated as 'VAT inclusive', since a private, non-registered buyer is unable to reclaim the tax from HMG.

In addition, we also pay an annual tax, variously known as inter alia vehicle excise duty, VED, road fund licence RFL, etc. The amount payable varies greatly depending on the age, emissions, engine size of the vehicle concerned, hence the reason, I suspect, behind 'bananarama's question.

This tax was originally introduced to pay for the construction and maintenance of our roads, but today, judging by the appalling state of the roads, it would seem to be used for anything but!

Your anticipated ongoing annual mileage may be relevant ?

Agree with the above,projected annual mileage and type of journey could be relevant.if it's more town type work then the smaller engine would probably be better however if it's more higher speed motorway use then the easier cruising a bigger engine gives might be better.Do they not do a "standard" V70 without the AWD system over there or are they all XC's with AWD? As I'm sure you know turbos[on any car] are generally ok if they've been treated correctly,not only servicing wise but not thrashing them from cold or turning the engine off immediately after a run without allowing the turbo to spool down first.Auto boxes despite some describing them as "sealed for life" need to have the fluid changed[I have heard 60,000 miles as a change point but don't know for sure so would need looking up]Personally of the three you originally listed all things being equal I'd go for the 3.2 because I prefer bigger engines!
