2006 V50 2.0D Bizarre Intermittent Fault

Hello all. We've been having some issues with a 2006 V50 2.0D, and I was hoping you good people could help us out! I should mention before I start that this is a non DPF car. It never came with one from the factory.

I'll go to what's been happening. When we bought the car, the EGR was blanked off and unplugged. When it came time for it's MOT in early November, we took the blanking plates off and fitted the EGR pipe back on. After multiple visits to a local garage, and an afternoon of taking the EGR valve off, I found that said valve was stuck shut, but was barely dirty at all.

I cleaned the valve and free'd it up. As it stands, the EGR valve has been cleaned, free'd up, plugged back in and the EGR pipe is attached too. The problem we're having is the car will go into limp mode whenever travelling up a hill just outside our house, and will have to have the engine turned off and back on again to sort it. Apparently the car also feels down on power, too (I'm not the driver).

The car only goes into limp mode when going up a hill when cold. Otherwise it's alright, apart from being a little down on power, so I'm told. When the engine is warmed up, it will not go into limp mode. It's been recently fully serviced, included a fuel filter. The previous owner also fitted a K&N Panel filter, but I don't see this being the issue as it only occured after working on the EGR system.

The problem only showed up after plugging in the EGR valve and putting the pipe back on. Does this sound like an EGR fault? We can't afford to throw new parts at it willy nilly. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance
