Questions about C30
 

Having recently bought myself a C30 2.0 petrol R-Design, I have a few questions that I haven't been able to get a definitive answer for.

Do these suffer from the dreaded swirl flaps problem? All I can find online seems to be related to the Ford Duratec engines, not sure if Volvo badged engines had anything changed in them to mitigate this issue. Mine is currently approaching 118k and there is a rattle at idle which is making me uneasy.

Lastly, anyone in the Hampshire area that can perform scans? I just have a basic ODB2 scanner that doesn't pick up any codes,but the throttle response at times feels a bit "notchy" (almost like it's working in steps) and as if the engine is building boost but then nothing really happens - again, this doesn't happen all the time.

Any help? Regarding the first question at least.

join some local volvo groups .its very likely that somone will have a vida dice diagnostic set up who could help you find any faults. cheap code readers just dont work on volvos unfortunately

An update on this subject: took it to a Volvo independent mechanic, issue was traced to be the solenoid that actuates the swirl flaps. Replaced it and now it pulls beautifully.
