12v socket in boot?

I think this is quit e acommon ask, has anyone fitted a 12v into the boot of a 2013 V60?

I know there is the 'official' install but that seems to need removal of 3/4 of the boot trim and all sorts, but recall seeing someone fitting one with a lot less effort?

The wiring should be there, but wondering if there is anything extra needed elsewhere or can it just be plugged in and go?

If you use the Volvo wiring it will be live all the time.

I fitted a second 12v socket to my boot to plug my cool box into. I earthed it to the towbar earth and ran a cable to the fuse box below the glovebox and used a tap connector into the same fuse that supplies the 12v socket next to the cupholder. This one is only live with the ignition

You can do it without dismantling most of the rest of the car. I used a hole cutter and only popped open the little hatch in the side panel. Make sure you follow the wiring instructions and buy a J fuse to the correct rating otherwise it won’t work. The link above is very helpful. Good luck

I did this on my XC60 - a relatively easy process using the 'through flap' method. The wiring was already in place & live, so no need for the j fuse.

What’s the betting the dealer uses that method and charges for the full strip down? I’m cynical

As this socket is permanently live, can I use it for charging the battery? I am going away for 5 weeks and want to leave a trickle charger plugged in

A battery cant charge itself , or am I missing something ?

A new volvo parked up with a fully charged battery should be charged every 3 months... you should get through 5 weeks ok, there is less than 50 ma draw when parked up.

get a dedicated battery maintaining charger ctek or similar dont rely on spurious wiring .

I think the OP means a mains powered trickle charger connected via the 12v socket (as opposed to the positive terminal of the battery and the chassis).
