C70 roof leak, how to fix it?
 

So since the v50 is being an ass i thought ill use the c70 that has been sat for the winter and there was a load of condensation in side. \i also noticed tht while nothing was wet int he boot my jacket in there was mouldy so water must have been in there. Then as i move the car, the seal join on the driver side window starts dripping furiously so water inside the seal. then the car goes nuts screaming at me that moving could damage the roof, like it thinks the roof is mid opening.

I drove it round the block and the brakes felt somewhat intermittent but it was a 2 min drive so cant say for certain.

So...... i assume the rubber seals will need replaced, how hard is that and more importantly how much is this likely to cost? (getting deeply fed up with both cars and how much they are costing)

Have you ever used conditioner on your seals? It's perfectly possible that what's happened is that they have dried, lost their elasticity and consequently aren't sealing properly.

If not, worth a go, even at the silly cost/ml of the proper stuff (whose name I forget). Gummi pfledge is an alternative which is slightly cheaper.

And check your drain holes are clear, too.

I had a similar leak last year when storing the car over winter.

Inside got damp, dripped onto the electric seat controls so needed a replacement.

I cleaned and lubricated the seals using Krytox 105 (slugslime on ebay just as good too) and this fixed the issue. You need to clean and lube seals annually.

Gummi Pfledge is a good short term fix but the Krytox has much better durability.

Seals cost a small fortune, so worth treating them before repalcement.

Drain holes can be cleared with an airline or a long cable tie. Worth doing monthly as can cause boot leaks.

A little goes a very very long way indeed - in fact you're almost bound to over-apply to start with (ask me how I know!)

hi, erm where are the drains? Ive even googled how to unblock them but i just mostly get pages about the other models sunroof drains.

Open boot. Look in the drain gulley on either side near the hinge. You'll see a little black drain with tiny fingers around it. Them's 'em.

Check headlights for cracking where the lens is sealed to the back of the headlight unit - happened to one of mine. It's possible to re-seal them with silicone once dried. (Or it may just be that you have a loose bung to a bulb/bulbs on the back of the unit)

OP, don't remove them, I suggest, unless absolutely necessary* - I used to run MX5s and the best tool for a blocked drain is an old-fashioned net curtain spring with the hook at the end cut off.

*Unless you're a spaghetti threading expert :)

Its best to remove them as they bend around 90* before entering the body work, its very easy to put a hole in the drain tube if you start prodding around. Been there, done that !
