Were the 200 series ever fitted with Pholus alloys?
Im trying to find a replacement for my (ahem) 940..... |

https://i.imgur.com/Wxy6ouTh.jpg I refurbished these about two years ago, and even if I say so myself, they came up pretty well: https://i.imgur.com/GbQQVbah.jpg If you were looking for a set of wheels with almost new winter tyres (about 1000 miles run) then these might be available. I'm thinking of selling the RB (which has some nice Virgo wheels for its summer tyres) and I might be persuaded to sell the Pholus alloys and tyres separately from the motor car. Give me a call if that is something that might interest you. Alan PS. We like 940s as well! |
Hello Alan
First of all the refurb looks good.....and suits the 240 It certainly is something that might interest me, depending on what you are looking for.Could you PM me? |
Pholuses (Pholii?) were only ever offered from the factory on the late 900-series cars; any on a pre-1996 Volvo 200 or 7/900 car have been fitted by an owner at some stage.
That said, they do suit the 200-series cars like the RB though I think they're rather "busy" by comparison with the Virgos that the 240 GLT usually wears. My personal preference is for a wheel that is plain and whose wheel-stud to spoke ratio is a whole number - the Pholus is a 13-spoke wheel for instance - but it is your car and therefore your choice. |

Loki that's interesting arithmetic. I haven't quite undertood it in relation to wheel appearance for 240s. I'm in brain difficulties, stroke(s). That's what has boggered up my sight. Hey ho.
I do so agree with plain wheels. Really, wheels should not in my opinion be in any way a focus of attention. ;-) Many wheels are THE focus of attention. :-( So I like steel wheels on earlier 240s, the blacksmith made stalinist industrial virgos on glt. Torslanda wheels on Torslanda. And, quiet smile, Omega on 240s that were fitted with wheel covers. At quick glance Omegas look like the wheel covers, but they are alloys and 15 inch, Kushtie. More tyre choice. I actually ain't a purist. I quite like seeing creatively cared for examples of 240s. Just not for me. Creatively cared for examples are above all cared for, which I respect. Mine is sadly, a working example. P.S. Omega, the last word in wheels ... :-) Stephen . |
