Squeaking wheel - brake problem?

Hi,

For a few weeks now, I've been hearing a squeak from (I believe) the front driver-side wheel when driving. It stops as soon as the brakes are applied, and then starts again when the brakes are lifted. It also seems to diminish significantly when steering left. I have been meaning to get this checked out, but a new symptom has reared it's head, and I dunno if it's related:

The last two days on my way to work, the Brake Circuit Failure light has flashed once on the dashboard - at exactly the same point of the journey! It happens on an awkward left-right-left bend about a mile from my house, just as the car is approaching normal temperature.

I'm not experiencing any degradation in the braking performance, and the brake-fluid level is halfway between min & max. Does anyone know what this could be? I'm heading for a garage as soon as possible, but I'd like to be fore-armed with some ideas!

Thanks in advance,

Iain

sounds like your pads are almost worn out.

That would make sense, I suppose! The sooner this car sees a mechanic the better, I feel...

Thanks for the advice.

...and on goes a complete set of pads & discs, as they were all worn & warped.

If you listen carefully, you can hear my wallet crying!

Thanks for the help, Vaughan.
