Front Shocks

Various clunks, knocks etc from front end. Initially thought control arms but they seem to be OK so thought top mounts. Having pulled out the front strut nearside, top mount also seems OK but the shock absorber is very easily compressed. Rebounds ok but I'm really not putting in much effort to push it down.

Yep, the shocks look knackered. They seem far too easy to compress... it should be fairly hard.

Although, whilst you're replacing the shocks, you may as well replace the top mounts. There's no point putting new shocks in with old mounts.

Yes, I've got new top mounts which I'll do at the same time.
Unfortunately going to have to put it all back together so I can get it off the drive to get the other car out !!! Doh !

I agree, re: shocks.

Mind sharing what you’re using to compress the springs?

Best of luck with the repair.

Got them off ebay years ago when I had an old V70.
This is similar, with the double hooks which just gives you a bit more confidence that they are not going to let go !!!

That's good to know, thanks.

With the XC90 being a tad on the heavy side, I could imagine the springs would need a bit more persuasion to compress. Good to know that spring compressor design holds up.
