Volvo 940 Full Exhaust

Hi all,

I've recently purchased a 1997 Volvo 940 2.3 LPT.

Unfortunately the previous owner has installed a 2.5" side exist exhaust with a sports cat that is far too loud for me.

I've been looking at some kits online for a full exhaust but before I pull the trigger I was wondering if anyone had one for sale?

If you're keeping the car and want a quiet but good flowing system, I'd recommend getting one custom made. It'll be better quality than anything off the shelf for similar money.

Thanks for the help, I’ll look into getting a custom exhaust made up at a local garage.

I know there’s a consensus that 3” exhausts are the way to go if you’re trying to go for high power figures but from experience they can be a little droney. Would there be much of a downside to going for a 2.5” system past the cat if I’m only hoping to go for around 200 - 250hp?

You would probably be fine with a jetex system then, Simmons is the same exhaust.

I've got a 3" from the cat back with one silencer and the drone is ridiculous especially under load.

2.5" is fine for 300hp. 3" is suitable for anything more. If you're running a 13C or 15G turbo, the conical flange of the turbo outlet is the biggest headache for making power. I'd suggest if you want 250hp, a 19T with the angle flange would be the best flow out the turbo, go with 3" downpipe into the cat, and from cat back you could go 2.5" if you wanted.

I have a full 3" stainless from turbo, into sports cat, and then into 2 mufflers with a downturn tip. It's got a sporty note but doesn't sound like something from Halfords in the 1990's, I regularly take longer 200 mile journeys in it and find it very reasonable on both volume and drone. A big part of this I believe is that slip joints are terrible, and V bands really seal up very well.

I've not seen good reviews of anything off the shelf, some systems are absolutely appalling, especially for the money asked. I've nothing against Classic Swede but their systems have some terrible reviews and price out very close to what I spent on my full custom install. Get some quotes on a full system, it's really not that much more than what's been linked in the reply above, especially if you are retaining factory cat over a sports one.
