Volvo 760 2.3 Turbo Intercooler saloon 1987
Hi All,
I have just joined the club and working my way around the site so hopefully I have posted in the correct area. I have just pulled out my dads Volvo 760 2.3 petrol turbo intercooler 1987 saloon model from he's garage. it has been sitting in a dry garage for 17+ years and I'm hoping to get it recommissioned and MOTed and possibly to a club event. I have managed to get the red block engine running but its revving up and down around 2000 revs then drops to 1000 revs and hunts. I have had the turbo refurnished, changed the fuel filter, cleaned and changed all the fuel, checked the fuel regulator cleaned the mass air filter, changed and checked the throttle position sensor, changed the idle air control valve and changed all the HT Leads but now I'm stuck. Everyone I speak with thinks its a vacuum problem but I cant find any leaks with carb spray so no revving up with this method and I cant see anything visually. I haven't checked the injectors but I think theses are good but could be wrong. Is there anything else I could check or I may have missed? If anyone has any advise please do let me know and thank you, LB |
Have you removed the intake manifold? Throttle body? I suspect it is drawing in air somewhere around there - that surging idle is typical of an air leak on the intake side.

Is it on Motronic or LH2.4?
Remember those early B230's chuck rods so worth replacing the rods at some point |

I would try another set of injectors. The idle can be adjusted on the MAF but I would go through everything else before trying that

Thank you for the reply, Yes I have. I have installed a new gasket when I had it off but I haven't used any sealer of any sort maybe I need to? I have sprayed carb spray around this area but no change in engine condition. I will investigate this area in more depth. Thank you LB |

I have cleaned the MAF with cleaner and adjusted this along side the adjuster on the manifold but this has no impact on the running. I think the previous comment on the manifold could be the issue it must have a hairline gap somewhere and is drawing air I will need to investigate the underside. If all fails I will change out the injectors but fingers crossed. |
