C30 accelerator pedal position sensor - yellow wire?

Hi,

Does anyone know what the yellow wire is for on the accelerator pedal position sensor, cable connector side?

I have been having problems with Reduced engine performance message, car idling at 1500rpm. After using Vida to troubleshoot I have come to the conclusion that the problem lyes somewhere between the pedal sensor cable connector and the CEM, as when checking the CEM yesterday the problem seems to have righted itself. Checking for loose connectors, nothing obvious was found.

I have tested the pedal sensor cable connector as suggested in Vida, with key in position ll and all pins read around the required 12v, accept one. The square end of the plug with a yellow wire attached, reading 5v approx. I am just wondering what this yellow wire is for because this could be where my sensor issue might be. Vida says a reading of 5v is too low.

Also checking my battery (distilled water levels) I see that they are very low, borderline dry. Could this have anything to do with low voltage as the battery is on its last legs by the looks of it.

Thanks

The yellow wire is the 5 volt supply to the throttle pedal ...

Problem is terminal connectors , the 6 on the pedal unit and the white wire to the cem plug , volvo do repair terminals , the fault is never the pedal itself . It is a good idea to run a new white wire direct from pedal to CEM as it goes up under the dash in the loom and i had one which was trapped up by the base of the windscreen !

Was it trapped and causing an issue, similar to mine?

Yes , but 90% of these problems are down the terminals on the pedle and the CEM end terminals .

Where does the pedal connect to the CEM (white wire), is it the large green connector block to the right of the CEM?

I am pretty sure it is one of the smaller connector plugs underneath . if you disconnect the white wire at the pedal you can probe the white wires at the CEM until you find it . but renew the connector terminal which goes into the plug as that is where the problem is ( the female connector in the plug not gripping the pin in the CEM )

How do you disconnect the white wire at the pedal, does it just pull out?
Thanks for this, Once I've identified where the dodgy connector is on the CEM I'm confident I can sort it.

you need a terminal remover tool , there are kits around with various pin shaped probes which you insert into the hole provided in the base of the housing to release the tag which allows you to withdraw the terminal from the housing .. same goes for the CEM end but a different tool profile .

Accelerator Pedal Repair

Housing 8690598
Terminal 30765498 x 6

Terminal 30656678 ( CEM end )
