1999 V70 T5 - Am I Mad?
 

Hi all,

I currently own a 1997 v70 10v Manual and t5’s have always been on my wish list, would I be mad to pay above £3k for this example? If I was to negotiate the price closer to 3k in some capacity would it make more sense? £4K seems too steep to me.

Really would appreciate some advice on this. Seems like its really well looked after and I would check for all the usual p80 chassis problems.

I would try and get some info from the chap that owned it before the one that's now selling it on Ebay. The fact that it sold for admittedly the cheap price of £500 just over a year ago would put me off.

I would say yes your mad for spending that sort of cash, on a car that has covered that sort of miles.

Not a chance would I say that car is even close to what its up for.

Then again it all depends on what the new potential buyer is prepared to pay.

Those T5's have genuinely increased in value.

I have only skimmed the advert but, it sounds like its got some good parts on it. I wouldn't touch one with an LPG conversion, just another thing to go wrong, if you can't afford the fuel then buy something other than a T5. Seeing another comment, it seems to have changed hands quickly at varying prices, which, for me is always a no go zone. I only buy cars which people own for a long period of time.

Mileage is NOT a problem so long as a car has been driven and maintained well.

I don’t think you are mad buying a V70 T5 I just think you must be hugely wealthy and a little silly to pay that for something with those miles on the clock. For an extra 2-3k you would get an ‘R’ with well under half the miles and 4K should buy you a standard T5 with under 100k in that condition.

You will find any bushings, bearings and such like at the end of their life.

That to me is a £500 car (which as others have said was on the cheap side admitidly) that has been highly polished and offered for sale a year later.

Under no circumstances would I touch a used LPG conversion either.

A friend of mine had a recent purchase of a vehicle similar to that (he paid 1k for it however). He ran it for 6 months and a few k at which point the steering rack seas failed. The cost was very high and he scrapped it.
My hat said, I can see it looks clean and if everything is done then perhaps it’s a case of judging on condition rather than miles. I just think for 3-4K you could buy another cherished one with 100k on the clock where it’s a lot fresher. If you don’t buy that I don’t see it selling for that.

As others have said they are asking all of the money for a car that has done lots of miles and has an LPG conversion.

Patience is your friend as something will turn up. I have been lucky enough to buy a 2005 MY facelift V70R that is a UK 3 owner car with 93,000 miles and a full Volvo history I paid a little more than your budget but hopefully it should not depreciate much :shocked:

It has taken 6 months of patience for the right car to come up, I was actually looking for a T5 but couldn't resist the temptation of an R:omg_smile: Good luck with your search.

Theres some rubbish talked on this forum.

Lots of negative assumptions made too.

Both of my ME7's C70 T5's have;

full suspension overhauls using lemforder, H&R, Eibach, Bilstein parts at 70,000 miles (EVERY link, mount, arm is replaced!), regardless of car make and model. Engine sensors are replaced as a precautionary measure, injectors cleaned or replaced, coils replaced, full service every 5,000 miles, only runs on premium Michelin Pilot Sport or Goodyear Eagle tyres, doesn't use any fluids and compared to modern stuff I've had like a 2010 E350cdi and 2016 BMW 520d it wipes the floor with them for durability, quietness and uber comfort and sense of well being.

My 1998-2000 Volvo makes my 2007 68,000 mile CLS feel like an old Lada.

Case in point.
