Water Leak!!
 

Hi,

Had my S40 parked up for 2 weeks recently when on hols, after getting back I noticed car misting up, and damp smell, my drivers side mat was wet, took it out and replaced with rubber one, checked under the mat next few days and wet carpet underneath.

Lifted carpet today and soundproofing underneath is ringing wet.Also wet under dash where carpet meets back of pedals area, so assuming its coming in under dash.

A mate suggested a the air con- pipe might be blocked, and leaking into cabin.
Have had a quick look but cant see a pipe? I have had climate control on all the time last couple of weeks.

Any suggestions please?

Yes I think your mate may be right. There have been posts describing similar symptoms.

On left side of footwell, ancel height - pry back carpet. There you`ll find the AC outlet, its a plastic thingy - on the older models 2005-2007 its a common problem that it comes lose. Either just reconnect or replace with new plug. Oddly enough this is something my volvo dealer sent me to chassis dep for fixing. I dried out the carpets front and rear myself. But that is another story entirely. Good luck.

BTW, best way of determing that AC is the culprate is on a humid day to crank up AC. If any water drops comes out of the air vent below your drivers seat (directioned towards the rear under your seat) then the AC is to blame.
Easy fix except for the drying out bit.

Thanks for the replies guys,took the a pillar cover off and the sunroof drain pipe has come off.put it back on but when testing by pouring water in sunroof drain hole,it backed up so the bulkhead plug is blocked with debris.
Googled this and it can be pulled out and the end cut off to make it wider, wish me luck !!
Carpets (front and back)are out and in the house, borrowed a de-humidifier,soundproofing foam is soaking.
All in a days work for a Volvo owner :-)

Hi, Ive just experienced this exact same problem! And now have soaking wet floors in the drivers side, Therefore I guess I am also going to have to remove the carpets, what is the best way to do this, is there a best way? And do you need to remove the seat?

the carpets come out in 3 pieces, n/s front, o/s front and rear, I had to remove o/s front (drivers) and rear, as rear is lowest point, there was about an inch of water under rear carpet, took 2 days to dry out, de-humidifier on constantly.....:stormy:
I think I unbolted seats but did not remove from car, just watch that you dont damage electrics under seat if you have heated/memory.
