Xc90 headlights
 

Mines a 2006 Xc90 and the headlights are faded to the point of looking terrible. To be honest it’s looked this way since I got it 4 yrs ago, but I’m freshening it up as I want to keep it for another while.

Do I have to buy genuine Volvo units or is there reproduction units available.

Hi, I have same problem on my03. This has been an observation on last 3 mots.

Next service and mot in July and if if it gets through with not too much effort, I may treat it to two new headlights.

You need to check what type of headlights, but mine are early halogen.

In my case you can purchase OEM headlights on eBay which are new but not genuine Volvo, for about £100 each.

Simple to fit and no programming required.

You can get kits to clean them by rubbing down with very fine emery paper (1000, 2000 and then 4000 and can get them pretty clean but you must overspray with clear laquer otherwise they deteriorate very quickly.

I have done mine twice in last four years but they are now quite marked.

I was considering buying new light units but how long before they start fog up is it false economy or is it better to just buff up my old ones every two years???

A renovation kit costs about £10 and it takes an hour or so to do the job.
I have used and recommend the Visbella DIY Headlight Restoration Kit.

It includes the laquer and will last 2-3 years before it needs to be done again

I didn't use a kit, but I sanded, buffed, and recoated with UV resistant clear coat 2 years ago, and they look great!

As it is mine are pretty pitted, I tried the autoglym kit which was quite exp and did little.

I’ll check what lights they are, I think halogen.

There is a very easy way to tell if you have halogen ones with out even unlocking the car. The halogen headlights have black around both the dipped beam and main beam parts where as any of the xenon ones are all silver.

A machine polisher with medium compound (every body shop has one) brings even the most faded headlight up a treat.

Can anyone tell me what type of headlights are in my 2006 D5 XC90 as I would not know one from another but whatever they are they need rejuvenating thanks Chris

Hi, I did mine about six months ago, i used a kit I bought in Spain for 15€ it came with a small sanding disc, buffing disc, sand paper pads, fine paste and lacquer.
It took me about one and a half hours on each light and they look like new. i did consider changing them, they are xenon and even second hand the cost is very high. Also i have been trying to buy left hand drive xenons for the car and that is very difficult to find any at a reasonable price. hope this helps
