Rubber Brake Pad Shims
Traditionally, when brake pads were replaced they came with shims. In the case of the 740 and other series the shims were metal, but now not only are the pads not supplied with shims, the only thing type available are stick on rubber pads.
1. Has anyone used these? 2. Did developers wind back enough to fit them and new pads? 3. Do they perform as well as metal ones? 4. What lubrication if any did you use on the rubber? 5. Had anyone found any new metal shims for a 740? I have heard of shims made with titanium but I guess the price is exorbinate. Thanks in advance of all comments, advice and assistance. Colin Hughes. |
The front or back? The front ones, at least the Pagid ones for a 940, came with rubber pads already stuck on, and the back Volvo ones came with 4 separate metal shims. No issues or squealing in 5 years from either type. Think I used copper grease.

My genuine volvo front pads came with the anti-rattle clips, but no shims.
I covered the backs and surfaces they contact the carriers with ceratec. No noise at all - its sticky stuff. I've always used copper grease before, but the ceratec seems much more suitable tbh. |
