Reversing camera after market fit
Check this out guys, it's a site on eBay offering Volvo reversing camera from Hong Kong for £15!?! The devils in the detail though I think i.e. how to connect the camera to the screen? Any thoughts if it's worth trying?

- It replaces one of the number plate lights. (I wouldn't do it, simply on that basis. It might even be illegal.) - It seems to require it own dedicated screen. (untidy) - You have to run cable through the tailgate and the body of the car. (lots of hassle) A bit dubious then. |
Ressurecting old thread. Camera looks cool. There is a clear bit so number plate light should work. I don't thing will be illegal.
I have a question aswell. My satnav have an "av in" input which looks like a mini jack. Is any chance to fit any reversing camera to it? hopefully it's possible. |
camera
i am waitng on one should be here this week

I have also just received one of these from Hong Kong. The physical installation seems good - with a transparent piece ensuring numberplate light still works. Power connection is simple to reversing light - so power is switched on when selecting reverse.
Only issue is how to connect video (phono plug) to existing satnav/screen. I have previously played recorded video through USB with no problem - any thoughts as to whether AUX minijack connector would work with video - or is this only for audio? Any other thoughts as to how to connect video greatly appreciated. Hackin8 |
I fitted a cam in my C70 a few weeksago there a few threads on here about it somewhere ..
but Heres some Pics ect http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/8118/tidyup005.jpg http://img821.imageshack.us/img821/5756/tidyup004.jpg http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/8485/camfinal001.jpg http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/6035/camfinal002.jpg i used the reversing Lights as a Power source for BOTH the Cam & The screen & Removed the drivers vanity mirror to fit the Screen into that space in the Sun Visor Keith |
Keith - thanks for that. To run the cable from the tailgate to the reserving lght - did you have to remove all the padding, or was there a spare cable in the conduit? It seems the biggest problem is actually running the cable.
Your display looks good - but I do not have a separate display - and was hoping there is someway to connect the caera feed to the existing 7" monitor that is already used for DVD, Sat Nav etc. It has a USB and AUX connector in central storage box - I was hoping to be able to somehow connect to that rather than having to strip the dashboard apart. Thanks again - any suggestions from others on both cable laying and video connection very welcome hackin8 |

out of boot (offside) under the rear Seats to the Door trim out of the door trim & Up the front side of the door to under the dash (Near the Fusebox) .. up the side of the Windscreen & into the sun Visor SERIOUSLY it took me NO MORE than 10 MINUTES to "cable it up" ... In my old BMW 1 series I used a blaupunkt Portable Sat Nav that too had a "AV" in port & would override the Sat Nav if Power was applied to the AV port I would tend to THINK that the software in the Volvo Sat Nav would be the same ... (Power to AV Port gets Priority) therefore connecting it to the Reversing Lights would "Power" the sat nav to display a Rear View from the Camera Is the AUX connection just a "RCA" plug type ??? (OK just re-Read yer first post & IT IS!! ...SO . THIS WILL WORK I ABSOLUTELY GUARANTEE IT WILL http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-2-0-3-...item4cff50a4db Coz I USE THE VERY SAME on my Security Cameras around the outside of my house EDIT HERE***** I just realised you may NOT be able to use that above (as there is NO WAY to Configure the Sat Nav Screen ect ..So ... USE THIS INSTEAD >>>>>http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-5MM-AV-3...item3f15fdebdb Thats "Phono" (From the Camera feed) Converted to AUX ("IN" for the AUX connection in the car) ... that WILL WORK ( I have a Portable DVD player with the same set up & use it to "Test" my cameras for Clarity & Focus before doing the full Wiring job on my Security Camera Network Hope this helps Keith |
