Rear brake disc backplate
 

Hi, my mechanic has told me that our rear backplate has corroded and so the brake shoe cant be held against it properly.... can anyone advise on where to get these from other than Volvo.... genuine Volvo items are over £40 each.
Also is this an easy DIY job or will the rear hub need removing.

You need to remove the hub/bearing assembly as it's the same bolts that retain the back plate. However that's not as bad a job as it sounds, just another 5 bolts for the bearing and driveshaft.

£40 aint so bad....

Thanks for this, i have seen them on autodoc site for as little as £14 each but they all seem to be out of stock so I was just seeing if I could find another source.

You could try a breakers yard, it's not a difficult job, i have just replaced both rear wheel bearings. same dismantling job

Surly you could do a fix with a welder? I done this on my v70. Or you could get a U bolt and make a tab up for the spring?
